possible carburettor problems

Im thinking possibly the choke in particarlar.   im aware that it seems to be recommended to change the original pieburg carb to a weber.

the symptoms are that the the car starts fine first and revs high at 2000 then slows down to about a 1000 but it seems to die once warmed up, it can be started a lot of the time straight away but seems to only keep running if you keep the revs high ( will not idle)

the car is a 1.8 d reg , clipper ,  any tips as to possible reasons and advice on possible maintenance or whether best to replace the carb would be appreciated.

Check for an air leak especially at vacuum hoses.

I have had a number of issues with non idle.  I have renewed my vacuum lines and it helped.

I then had major misfiring and renewed my coil and points.  The car is now running sweet as a nut.

If yours is running ok when revving then I would check for an air leak as it may be getting too much air at idle and stalling due to the mixture being too lean.

There are loads of posts on here about idling .

Hope it helps
