Noticed your thread. Did the uplift cam increase the power much? I'm looking at maybe tuning my 1.8 carb dx engine but I wanted to know ideal power gain options. It's fitted with a single weber which doesnt make a significant difference. I don't want to go down the engine transplant route as she will be off the road for weeks.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

hi , your not going to get huge power from the camshaft on its own , ive got a single weber thats been rejeted to match my mods and had the inlet manifold worked (ported and polished with the hedgehog heater removed) the heads had valve work and port and polish and ive uprated the exhaust.  all head work was done by dave crissel ex gti eng and tsr awsome at his job best in the buisness i think. but with all that im only looking at around 125 bhp if im lucky, only reason i did this was 1 i got the head work done cheap  and 2 i wanted the engine bay to look as close to og as poss . if you want real power gains you will have to go for engine swap, but im well pleased with what ive done , good luck with yours .

Thanks for the advice. I need to do my homework before I make a decision on this.

Depends on what you want from the car really, that is the first thing to do.

Then decide how to get there, built mine over the last few years with canny ebay finds and some hard work.

End of the day, how fast do you need a cabby to go?

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Well I don't want a drag car just something that has more torque that is capable pullling off nicely on a-roads n motorways. She's a bit gutless at the moment, plus the engine n box are a bit tired. Im considering the kr engine or g60. It all depends on the what I can get hold of.
I'm currently upgrading the rear brakes to disc conversion as she won't handle anything faster if I decide to do an engine swap.
