Overrun, please help!

Ok when I turn my engine off it seems to have started to overrun when I switch it off. I have just had the cambelt changed. could it be a timing issue or just bad luck??

cheers

can be casued by a couple things, 1st check the 3/4 point unit fully retracts when engien is off, see my 2e2 faq (assuming its original carb)
if thats ok make sure the engine isnt getting too hot, i had this in the summer when my fan was duff.
could be carbon buildup in cylinders, this can happen if the carb isnt running right.  to cure it get engine hot then remove airbox, dribble water down the carb flap while you hold up the revs. this will turn to steam in the bores and steam clean the inside of the engine for you :)

I've had this problem, someome recomended filling the tank to the brim with BP's Ultimate Petrol -  this seemed to get some of the carbon/dirt out of the cylinders and solved my problem,,,, for a while. Gave me time to save up and have mine proffesionaly cleaned with a new gasget and some other expensive bits!

Problem Solved. :)

I realise this is probably a bit Harry Bodgeit but it worked for me.

Mine was idling at 1600 and had to be stalled to turn it off.  Had a bit of a fiddle under the bonnet and the vacuum hose to the black plastic diaphragm thing on the front of the carb (sorry) had collapsed.  Changed it and the diaphragm thing started screaming, so I turned the adjuster on the front of it out a turn and it stopped.  Idle was now up to 2000 (!) so I wound the threaded rod that contacts the metal lower diaphragm rod out two turns.  Idle is now down to 950 or so when warm, doesn't run on, all is good.

I would think that the high octane petrol would make the issue worse, certainly seemed to for me.
