The manual states 15W/40 mineral oil is fine. You can use 10W/40 semi synth, or 5W/40 or 0W/40 synth too, if you want to.

If I gave you a link to the thread where it was "debated" on CGTI forum, you'd need a sleeping bag cos you'd be staying overnight at work! The best is obviously the fully-synth 0W/40 but it would cost so much, its not worth the bother. The 15W/40 mineral is good enough for the engine and would be cheapest.
My advice on engine oil: quantity is much more important than quality!

It seems to be so cliquey on that forum, some of those guys are completely blinkered by a bunch of 'myths' surrounding cars and tuning, and when a newbie comes along and constructs a logical argument breaking down these myths, they are put in their place but don't have the bottle to re-post, apologising for misleading everyone! There was a similar thread regarding oil filters and I offered the guys who were proven wrong, to apologise. One of them make an 'ummmm…….errrrrrrr……..' style post, the others kept silent. So I take everything on there with a large pinhc of salt!!! It just goes to show how this forum (and club) are so much better, because there's very few 'keyboard warriers' and its much more constructive and accurate technical advice here!
