Oil in the Air filter and welded conection! AHH

hi got problem with my mk1 90 cab.  it runs lovely until warmed up and then it doesnt idle.  been fixed twice but after few months it starts again.

ive taken the air intake off the top of the carb to discover that there's a shed load of oil in the air filter housing and in the filter itself, i have cleaned this several times and gone through many filters but need to solve this problem now.  

why is there so much oil coming through and how can i prevent it?

ive also discovered that there is a couple of cables coming from the loom to the left side of the carb, which are not connected.  

one has 2 brown cables going into the same male connector.  this was stuck to the manifold and semi welded on.

 the other is larger strippy cable with large plastic female conecter on the end!!  

any ideas what these should be connected to?  was thinking each other but the colors dont match and they both coming out of the loom!
