Noisy engine

Hi iverecently bought a mk1 clipper the engine above 2000 revs is sweet as a nut but when lower than that it's very tappy/ticky I had one years ago which was very similar and was told it's the way they are and it ain't worth sorting is that still the same now oris there something I can do to stop it. Thanks

Is tappy when it's cold or like it all the time and how old is the oil and what oil are you using?

Mine is so quiet at idle at first I kept thinking it had stalled so it can't be just the way they are.

also proper mann or genuine oil filter helps as it stops oil drainign out the tappets overnight.

sometimes all they need is a good oil flush and fresh put in to get the tappets happy again
