New starter motor right or wrong?

Post

Hi all,

I have fitted a new starter motor as the old one has died, the new one has 2 spade connectors where as the old one only had 1 spade connector.
I have wired it up the same way as the old one and now it spins up without turning the engine over.
It appears that the solenoid is not engaging the pinion.

Do i have the correct starter motor or the wrong one?

It's for a 1.8 Clipper Cabby.

I think i may have the starter for the Gti possibly?

Any ideas would be greatly recieved!

Cheers

Marcus

gti starter is still fine, just have extra spade that does nothing on your car. main thing is make sure you have your red/black to pin 50 on starter and that it is the correct starter for the engine. check the battery cables are all clean and tight too, especially the gearbox earth

I have the other problem, I bought a starter that only has 1 spade and my Sportline 1 has 2 spades.

Do I need to buy a new 1 ?

Hey Richy,

It's going really well thanks mate.

The only thing I need to do really is get the rear arches touched up as they have a bit of peppering from small stones, nothing major but I will get it sorted when the weather gets a bit better, ready for the summer!

How's the Sportline going?

the 2nd terminal is for the cold start system, if you dont have it connected then you might find 1st cold start of the day is a pain in de ass as your 5th injector wont have power. now its a bit warmer you'll probably be ok, just a case of get yourself a proper k-jet starter before next winter. mk2 golf 8v and 16v k-jet starters will also fit, just have extra bolt hole that wont do anything

Sportlines going well mate, dropped it on some coilovers and its on BBS RM's now, so really happy with the look, just got a bit of a cold start issue im looking into.

Yeah the arches on mine / yours was the next bit i wanted to do, i was going to get the arch protectors taken off, spray them and then put new arch protectors on to keep off the stone chips

we will def have to catch up at a sunny show this year :-)
