NEW POBLEM Amsterdam 1.8l MK1 Cabrio AUTOMATIC

So I'm diving to the beach this evening and low and behold the engine cuts out as I am turning a right hand bend, I straighten her up and she starts again!

any ideas??

how to rectify said lift pump!?

and is it a  serious problem??

or your out of petrol!!

either keep the tank really full constantly or change the pump.
there are very few other things it can be i reckon.
the lifter pump is cheap to replace iirc.
remove rear bench to reveal the cap, from memory you tap it carefully anticlockwise, should be in the haynes.
there is a gauze filter on the bottom, that should be clean.
