mpg?
I'm just wondering what MPG everyone is getting from their mk1's.
I have a 1.8GTi cabby and I dont expect it to be exactly economical, but i think it should be running better than it is…
what are the main things to check in everyones opinion?
Thanks
Steve

I've been looking closely at mpg recently, before I put away my cabriolet for winter, and it's running very well. It's an 1800 carb with the original Pierburg 2BE, carefully set up, and it does between 7 and 8 litres for 100km, which works out as 35-40 mpg.
I drive mostly on medium-length journeys, it's 20 miles to work, and on major roads but not motorways.
I'm now in the process of setting up my new '79 GLD 5 door for its MOT, and that should be a lot more economical and cheaper to run. First drive this morning!
