Hi Martin
Depending on your budget.. O_o
Exhaust and air flow is a good start..

As above, plus worth a look at the basics…cam timing, ignition timing, plugs etc.

The 1500 is a good engine if you went into it rather than a swap…the head is ripe for porting and bigger valves, and the compression is low so will respond well to an increase.

Decent exhaust's work well…try and get one now that will suit your final conversion…it may not be ideal for this engine but not alot of point in buying twice.

awesome sorry forgot to mention it has an exhaust its just larger than standard but sounds really nice it dose help i was surprised it was a 1500, the exhaust is the only performance mod on it. what would ya recommend as an aftermarket carb im not a fan of fitting a bike carbs as i see many ppl do, id rather get somthing thats designed for the engine as it needs to be reliable

That's a good start.

I think weber still do a replacement carb.

A tubular manifold helps but most available are a bit to big a bore size for a std engine…tho would help pave the way for future mods.

The decent power would come from a ported head and compression ratio increase.

Nothing cheap is going to make a difference that youll notice, live with it and spend your money on the new lump you mention.

om not looking for massive gains just looking at getting the most out of what i have as iv got a Drab beetle with enough power to keep me happy, so ported heads and increase of compression ratio, 421 free flow manni and a webber carb should do the trick any idea what the carb is called ill get on doin a search for 1 then. id considered a bigger engine but the amount of extra power to all the work it comes with not much point for a 100cc-500cc gain lol.
