mk1 smoking

hi every1 im new to here so please be patiant. i have a 1990 cabriolet 1800 8v on original carb when i baught the car the automatic choke was stuck on and was ideling at 2500 revs. so i decided to change it to a manual choke since doing this she is smoking like hell i have no idea what it could b. ps there was no smoke before doing this help please

as for the smoking problem, if the smoke is blue it's burning oil, & if it's white, water is getting in the bores.

Could be totally unrelated to teh work you did, so start off with basics as above.

the smoke might just be undurnt fuel in the exhaust as it's been over fueling as the choke was stuck on

thanx for the fast replies il have a better look at it on sat i really hope its not that expensive to fix

is it's fuel over time it will disappear, i had this problem with mine
