Can some one please tell me why my 1.5 golf takes a while to fire up after leaving it over night :banghead:

Not really done anything just after some ideas where to start please

Buy a multimeter and check the battery voltage before you start it (needs to be a good few hours after its been last run, eg the morning after the night before it was run), and while its running, and just after you've run it and turned the engine off.

thats ok done that today turns over fine its like its taking ages for the fuel to get up to the carb

weak fuel pump (is it mechanical on the 1.5?)

Blocked fuel filter

Blocked fuel tank cap breather

oh, and this in the wrong section - smallblock was only the 1093 and 1272 lumps

cracked rubber fuel lines mate. if you have the original ones they should be rubber with the fiber braiding.

pop em off and stick ur finger on one end and suck the other, if you hear hissing you know its them :)

if theres a crack, over night the fuel will run back into the tank so it will be like starting it afte running out of petty every morning.

hi pal thanks for your help just a question where do you mean take the pipes off you mean at the tank and under the bonnett what you said about the fuel going back to the tank over night sounds wright thanks..........

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines :o

well im not sure on a 1.5…

just under the bonnet as this should be the only place for the lines to be rubber.

i have a 1.1 and they run form the back left of the engine bay up to the lifter pump, (i think yours is electric) and then from the pump to the carb.

sorry i can offer any more help, just look for the fuel pump, or the fuel filter, if you find them your onto a winner ;)

1.5 has a mechanical pump and rubber hoses at both ends of the 2x fuel lines.

so the setup is slightly like my ickle 1.1

so they do come up the same side then i take it?

going to replace all rubber pipes and clips under bonnet see if that helps  :dontknow:

well that never helped  :banghead: i really think it has to be down to the carb anyone got a webber carb or something that will do the job im from the preston area thanks……..

Did you replace the ones near the fuel tank too?

yea its getting plenty of fuel to the carb when it does run you cant rev it at all and it pops back through the carb and cuts out when i do get it to rev it some times blows flames out and on the floor where the exaust is its all black sut help :dontknow:
