LPG conversion on my cabby

Im going to post step by step instructions with photo's on how I get on

I bought the kit because fuel is so expensive, and it will make my cabby tax exempt, plus you get free parking in Sheffield city centre for green cars  :D

Any tips or advice welcome

I dont want to cut a hole in the body for the filler point so a solution to this would be good

How much did you pay for the kit? Is it mk1 specific? Are there any restriction on where the filler valve can go? What about in the bumper?

Will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how you get on as fuel prices are a disgrace, would also be handy to know where you got the kit from and how much etc…

Good luck…

will keep an eye on this, gona be interesting.

I have seen someone put a filler behind a rear light cluster before, you would have to create some hinge and catch system though for the light to open to give you access through.

Good luck with the install,

Rich

I got the kit second hand from ebay for £100

I need to spend about another £100 on parts to fit it in my golf, like pierburg carb mixer, new copper lines and a few othe odds and sods.

Then I need to get it tested at a lpg garage for them to issue a certificate which costs £60

I dont think I want to put the filler point in the bumper either as they are new. I need to find out if it needs to be external or on a bracket in the boot.

Found a website that does conversions and this bit of info

In order to re-fuel the LPG tank a filler point is added to the outside of the vehicle. This takes the form of a colour coded flush mounted cover approximately 75mm in diameter that can be opened to reveal the filler connector. The mounting position can be almost anywhere towards the rear of the car. If body mounting is not desirable then tow bar or chassis mounting brackets are possible

So I think I will mount it on a bracket in the boot right next to the boot lid. If it's wrong I will change it later

I don't think you'll get a certificate of safety unless its mounted outside (boot is inside). I don't think you'll get insurance without a certificate. Need to be v careful etc.

If you have it behind the number plate, you'd need a flex pipe to attach it to the tank because of the opening boot lid. You could run the tubing quite neatly around the opening aperture though, it would be a very workable solution. That way if you wanted to take the LPG kit out, the hole would be covered by the number plate or just get another boot lid. It all depends on he regs regarding the flexy hose.

Like the Idea of the hidden filler neck in the number plate but not going with that

After a little more research the filler neck has to go on the outside so really I have no coice but to cut a hole

Ok I got my kit today but need a few parts to complete it. Unfortunately city link damaged the tank cover and actually lost the tank support bracket  :dontknow:

I also noticed it has an Italian filler neck so a uk one is needed

Looks simple enough to me, just go to source the right parts

The pierburg mixer is off ebay ( only place I could find it )
