Any ideas why the bracket holding the TCI unit is bent walt?
So you decided to clean off the original wax in the end?
Seriously, very nice. I cant wait to see this car in the flesh one day.
I've used your pics as a reference to where cables should go a fair few times now!

Engine bay!
Just had a look, it's not bent! It is mounted on a rubber bush! It is just play in the rubber! Unless I'm looking at the wrong part! Top left of the pic? As for the original wax oil! I have left a lot on! I cleaned some areas carefully with a mist spray of TFR and a paint brush then just rinsed carefully with a hose! It could come up even cleaner but I will see how I get on with it! I might clean a little more! Once dry, I finished with a good spray of wd40 and then wiped everything down!
 Glad the pictures are of help to others! That's what its all about… Right?!

No, I think thats the idle Stabilisation Valve you were looking at. Its on the top right and should look like this….. but cleaner and without wires draped all over it!!
My bay looks a fair bit cleaner than this now, this was when I first got the car.
Sorry for being cheeky BTW, just thought you might like to know.

Bent thingy!
Well I have had a good look! Nothing is bent! Might be a slightly different design!? :dontknow:

Possibly?
Here's where I thought the crease was…
I guess it is a very straight bend so maybe it is factory bent!

Factory bend!
Yeah must be! All fine and dandy under close inspection! Trust me! I have looked closely at every part of this car and if anything was a miss it would be rectified! I changed the Karmann badges because maybe 3 or 4 % of the silver was worn from polishing! I would have been horrified by a bent bracket! You scared me for a minute there!

Sorry for questioning it ops: , its just played on my mind ever since first seeing the pics!!!
Its odd that VW kept making changes to components right up until the very end of production. Its also strange that some late GTI cabbys are Kjet and some digifant….
I Think that answers Tomo's question, but you don't see many in the UK.

Kjet and Digifant!
So which is Kjet and which is Digifant! I'm not yet up to speed with all the different bits and pieces because as you can imagine, I don't do a right lot of overhauling on mine! ops:

Yours is a Kjet Walt - exactly the same engine as my (t)rusty old Caddy ! You could eat your dinner off my engine too. You'd probably end up in hospital, but you could………….
First time I've seen a digi engined Mk1. I guess VW must have run out of Kjet metering heads towards the end………….
Mark.

The burgundy one!
The burgundy one looks like the Classic line from germany! The wipers are for a left hooker so maybe that is why it has the digifant? :dontknow:

aye thats the one ross! cheers mate! is that yours? walt you are right about the left hand drive thing :? , the digifants were in the later mk2 gti's, good engines

Yeah the pics off that duch website that was posted up the other day…

The digifant is electronic injection rather than mechanical injection, you can see the metering head is different and the Idle Stabilisation valve is different. Thats the cylindrical bit between the rocker cover and the inlet manifold. There's an ECU where your 'bent' bracket is!
I read somewhere that the digifant setup on the Mk1 gives a lower BHP than the Kjet but this is probably due to a CAT being fitted to the cars.
