K&N Panel Filter OR Bolt on Filter on a weber'd Clipper

Hi guys,

Got a clipper with a Weber carb conversion on it. Just the normal DMTL one I think. I want to buy a K&N filter for it. I know it wont give me much/if any power increase really, just want a little induction noise when putting my foot down.

So question is which do you guys run and recommend? The panel filter or the bolt on version? I'm guessing you would get more noise from the bolt on version? But understand this will mean I will lose all the little vacuum pipes that connect to the airbox? Does this cause any issues or problems?

Any advice from people with experience of these would be great!

Thanks

The panel filter is the best option as the bolt on ones are top heavy and cause the mounting rubber to split.

I now run the panel filter without any issues… I had the bolt on K&N filter had nothing but problems…personally don't like em… Terrible running when cold etc.

Fit the panel filter, leave the vac pipes alone, job done.

The fleet stands at:

'90 Clipper

'95 T4 lwb

'94 T4 lwb

if you dont mind it cutting out all the time when cold or damp, then fit the bolt on filter. if you want a car that works, leave the standard airbox on there ;)

ok cool thanks guys. Does the panel filter version create a little more induction noise or is it the same as standard?

you probably wont notice any difference with the std airbox on there unfortunatly. best to put money aside for an injection engine/car later ;)

Ok cool.

So I'm guessing people who run twin webers also have these problems when the engine is cold?

it depends on the design of the venturi, i dont think its a problem on those though as you never see them with a warm air feed plumbed up? but stock carbs are a real git for it. mine would do it every day on the 1st set of lights with the shroud missing, it wasnt enough to have the pipe pointed at the manifold!
