Jittery and splutters. Fuel filter?

Hey all.

I'm finding that no matter what gear or speed I'm going there is a slight very slight but noticeable jitter or loss of power. Also when I first start her it turns on but I'm having to press the accelerator and rev the engine constantly for about 30 secs to a minute before it will idle normally without cutting out. I'm thinking it is a fuel supply problem but would like confirmation from wiser heads such as you guys. Any advice will be helpfully. Cheers.

Hi, could the auto choke be sticking slightly? could the filler neck be rotten which in turn dropped rust into the tank then fed thru the fuel lines into the fuel filter and then the carb and all in between? worth checking all these mate.

I think the guy said an advisory on the last MOT was a rusty fuel line so I'll check the filter for rust and change the lot I think

the rust on the fuel line will most likely be an external reference. Only places to check are in the tank (under the seat and the filler neck)
From my experience if your having to wait 30 seconds feathering the throttle to keep her going. something in that 30 seconds is going from bad to good…this could be Aux air valve stuck or the WUR not adjusting the fuel pressure correctly while warming up.
I also have to feather my throttle for 20 secs or so, but mine doesnt cut out it just idles very lump.. i changed the Wur and it was no different, swapped the aux air valve and now it holds its own idle.

I dont want to lead you in the wrong direction (WUR could be fine, and is located on the front of the engine btw)  as my suggestion only came from having similar symptoms.. but im afraid to say it could be a few things. Might have rust in your fuel filter, (fuel filters are cheap and prity easy to change)
might be the metering head…might be the ignition side… when did you last service it? Dizzy, Rotor, leads etc?

its atleast drive-able so start with the simple, cheap things and perhaps change the fuel filter…

That's what I was leaning towards anyway the filter. All ordered now so let's hope will sort it. Last service was its last MOT last march only had the car a month so I'll sort what I can and get it in. Cheers for your help. :)

no such thing as a wur on a carb engine ;)

could be carb icing so check the warm air feed is there and the metal shround is still on the exhaust manifold. look at the warm air feed diverter flap too make sure it actually opens.

if its a 2e2 carb read the sticky at the top of this forum
