It's Weber time!

Right then.

Time to ditch the pierburg. Hopefully if I have enough dough left at the end of the month I'm going to get one from Quiff's, otherwise it might be a scrappy hunt for a BX or 306 or even a Land Rover (though jet will need swapping) for a weber for the golf, as budget is tight and I'm getting impatient!

Was wondering if anyone's ever done the conversion using a scrappy find? What else will I need to take from the donor car besides the obvious? Oh and if I got one from a Land Rover, what size jet would I need to install?

Cheers
Mat

P.S. Does anyone know any good books about carbs?

alright dude if i was you i would just get a brand spancker from quiffs as then you don't have to mess about re jetting and finding jets and who knows if it will even work till you put it on?? added bonus of having some comeback if you buy a new one too…..

It went ok!

I managed to make a bit of a meal of it and as a result is only mounted in 3 of the 4 correct points but that's a long story. Something somebody more experienced probably wouldn't have done - but I blame it on a design flaw! Trying to get the mounting bolt/post thingy I mangled replaced!

Unfortunately I didn't take many photos cos it was raining off and on and I didn't want my camera sitting about in the rain and to be honest, I was concentrating hard enough on not fecking it up!

Drove it to work today though and it's bloody flying with the tank cleaned too! So much more responsive! Going to have it looked over on wed morning but that's just an emissions test really.

Can't fault it. So much less crap in the bay now too after removing 6 thousand vacuum hoses, so it's all good!

Oh and by the way, if anyone wants any pierburg spares (god forbid) then shoot a PM over and I'll see what I can do!

Cheers

Yeah I've been thinking about bike carbs for a bit. Eventually I want to do a twin carb 16v but this may end up being a bike carbed motor.

I'd planned to try and get a cheap 16v from somewhere and then rebuild it as a learning experience as I'm in no rush for the extra power (insurers will destroy me) so may well do bike carbs then.

For now though the Weber is on and it's doing well!

I've just fitted a 36 tlp to my new engine, not fitted the choke or vacuum pipes yet, but when i tried to start it up it spluttered, struggled, ran for all of ten seconds then spat petrol out of the vents near the front, i think the floats are stuck, so i'll be investigating tomorrow, anyone got any other ideas?  :dontknow:

If its coughing and spitting fuel out it is more than likely to be a timing problem. check the timing including the dizzy rotation, and connect up the vacuum advance pipe.

I run twin dellortos and i don't connect the vacuum advance at all and its coughs fuel on to the exhaust all the time. It exciting when its hot!!

Tom tried replying to you by text but where i live can be a pain in the backside as regards phone, anyway, i was going to say you shouldn't be messing with the carb, i had it set up smooth, how can it be the floats if last time you saw that block running with that carb was at your garage and still is, it is the ignition timing as you have used your dizzy fella.
Also connect the vaccum pipe from back of carb to servo pipe and make sure the other pipe from servo is connected to vacuum on dizzy, think this is why your getting nowhere, you did state that you have not connected them.

I was gonna say would probably be sensible to connect it up completely before trying to start it and then wondering what's wrong with it - not surprised if it's not running properly from cold when you've no choke connected…
