Is this right???

Hi All,
My hill climbing golf 1.8 8v 1993 clipper cab project rebuild is on going and i will post a project thread soon (there are some photos in the newbie section). Question, i have removed the sump, rocker box etc and sent them to be powder coated and have noticed that what would be the 3rd cam shaft locating cap and shells are missing, starting at the cam pulley there are No1 and No 2 cam shaft holding down caps and bolts, then No3 not fitted (no stud/bolt threaded holes in the head and a different height block in the head. This is then followed by the final no4 cam retaining cap and bolts. I have taken some photos but not uploaded yet. Is this right or a factory error, the engine has covered 106,00 ish miles and appears in very good condition but will be rebuilt lightened etc.
I have read that better head is available to fit but not sure which one, my concern is that when lightened/ balanced and tuned is that the lack of that missing cap and bolts will be a weakness in the engine.

Any thoughts?? Cheers Simon

It's ten years since i went out of my my mind - I'd never go back.

Yes, the hydraulic heads came like this - the earlier 'solid' heads had all 5 caps in place.

Read the post last night and was fairly confident thats fine for latter cabs as myn was the same when I took the rocker cover off. Anyhow found the post below to confirm, bottom few pics on the original post.

"If you have a look at this particular head, it appears to have the bearing cap number 4 missing. I thought this was a problem but Bert stepped in and said it is meant to be this way. It has a little jet underneath it to spray oil and is known as a lifter  … I'm just glad it's not broken"
