I bought an alloy one for my Gti for around £120 but your one is spot on as you can pay £20 right upto the silly money I paid, I just never knew any better at the time  :banghead:

hella made so top quality. its 1.8 gti size so it may not fit if yours is the smaller one (some mk1 1.8 have smaller rad, some have gti size rad) if yours is smaller size id buy the rad above and change the rad fan shroud and 3 pipes to radiator for the gti items :)

I ended up buying a brand new Nissens rad for my 1.8 GTI for £60 from one of my mates. Not too sure if I had my pants taken down over the price but just really needed a rad at the time and he had a spare one he'd bought for his own GTI. Not had a problem since fitting so for me it was £60 well spent.

When I checked out compatibility for both these rads, it's advises they are not suitable for a 1.8 mk1 gti!

my one above will fit a 1.8 gti for sure, not sure on the 1.6 dont know if it uses the larger rad or not? assume it does.

even if your car uses the smaller rad you just change the fan shroud and 3 pipes to the rad for 1.8 gti ones and i'll fit right in

The radiator arrived yesterday afternoon. Packing and protection amazing. Also bought some lower wishbones as well at that price.

The radiator supplied is identical to what has come out and nice German quality as its been made in Germany.

Flushed system and comissioned in 1 hour.

I did note that the radiator that came out had a manfacturing stamp on it as June 1998. Lasting for 14 years is not bad at all.

I read this posting and bought one of the eBay ones having tried VW to find they're no longer available. Fitted it tonight….and…. It leaked. To make the best of it I only bought it because I'm overhauling the cooling system and the old one looked tatty!

So I put the old one back in. Gets what you pays for I guess..

I think they must have changed supplier, the were no visible manufacturer markings on it or the box, though I didn't look too hard as I took the damned thing out - trying  to resist hurling it across the garage  :banghead:

So it's going back!

Yours - looked again & couldn't see any manufacturer markings - spoken to the supplier, will be sending it back. I asked the local dealer to re check availability (for supersessions) it turns out that the genuine unit is available, so I've ordered one. It's coming from Germany, I'll post the part number when I collect it next weekend.

Cheers
