Idling high!

ive recently had some work done on the set up of the manual choke o my '90 clipper and runs ok, took the car out today and after a while, the idle was sitting at about 1500 compared to the usual 100. then after further time it was sitting at 2000, until however i lipped the throttle then it resided back to its usual 1000 ish rpm, apologies for the brief description, im at work sssshh

cheers bruce

that sounds like kick down on the autochoke. what carb are you running and is the choke a conversion on the stock carb or on a weber?

Sounds like they have not set the accelarator cable correctly and has tension and pulling on the arm of carb thus revs.
I take it your running a weber 32/34dmtl?
Undo clip on cable in engine bay, best removing airbox to do it so plenty of clearance.
Get someone to lift the pedal inside car, not forcing it just gently hold it till it stops itself, like i say gently lifting upwards.
Then have someone get the 'E' clip you removed from cable in engine bay and move the black part of cable forwards towards carb so you get slack on cable so it is not pulling on the arm on the carb thus your reving, then fit back E clip.
Once done, if reving still, now you have set the cable you know it is no longer pulling on arm turn the idle screw (located at front right of carb with a spring around it, it has a flat head) anti-clockwise to reduce the revs, Job done
Oh your revs should not be sitting at 1000rpm anyway, 850rom should be, or if you want to be a tight wad and save money at lights, have it ticking over at 600rpm

Hi Pedders  you seem to have a red wire attached to the spring (accelerator). I just done my conversion today. Should I have a similiar wire????
