ive always found carb cleaner works well! just spray into carb, soak up any crud with kitchen roll and wipe clean. make sure you check the butterfly opens and closes smoothly too

do you have an after market panel filter? i cleaned my K&N filter with the proper stuff and ive doubled my fuel economy!!!! so glad! it was full of rubbish! deeper engine note too!

while on the subject of carbs, did the mk 1 clipper come with a weber carb or is it something my car got fitted with before i bought it? thanks

Unscrew the jets, spray fuel system cleaner spray down them, screw then back in again.

You can obtain rebuild kits which tend to have exploded diagrams from places like Southern Carburettors.

PS.  Don't put the emulsion tubes in outside down!  I've seen it done an a DMTL before.
