Help, Misfire and no power!

Hi Guys

I have a mk1 golf cab with a 1.8 8v engine has recentally developed a missfire. Has recentally had carb rebuilt so could be that but have no idea what needs adjusting.

It has also had new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotar arm to try and help but still misfires upto 3000rpm then stops till about 4000 then wont rev any higher..

Hope someone can help need my pride and joy back on the road.

Cheers
Rich

Check mixture, check ignition timing.

Mixture isn't a dark art. It needs an instrument to measure it though. If you don't have a suitable instrument, then its impossible to check it, but you can guess if you like.

If it ran fine, then you changed the carb and it no longer ran fine, then I'd say its the mixture not the timing too, but it might have a minor influence on performance if it was slightly out, etc. Maybe worth tweaking once the mixture is done.

Ok thanks for that, would the mixture on the carb really make it misfire though?

TBH I can't see the car, so I don't know what's causing your misfire.

Too rich or too lean running can cause a misfire, just as ignition problems can too. Its the same thing - the fuel/air mixture isn't going pop.
