help intermittent fuel problem

hi can any one help me :D  i have a mk 1 1989 clipper convertible 1.8 auto.
When i brought her she ran fine for three days and then started cutting out (my partner said it was me because ive not drove an auto before until it cut out 12 times in a quater if a mile.)  i can be traveling at speed and she will just cut out it doesn't matter if shes hot or cold she sputters and cuts out and acts as if shes ran out of fuel.
Up to now ive changed plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotary arm, coil pack, air filter, fuel filter, fuel lift pump and carb seating flange but she still doesn't wanna play.  :dontknow: I really don't know where to go from here so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Likely to be either dirt or oxide corrosion in the float bowl blocking off the jets, thats what it sounds like to me. :)

hi, i had a similar problem with my clipper (manual) some years ago and sounds very similar, my problem was soved by carefully removing the fuel pick up/sender unit from the top of the fuel tank (access under the rear seat) and inspecting the inside of the tank. if there is rust debris in the bottom it could be blocking the pick up pipe. you can remove the rust particles with a strong magnet tied to a piece of string and drop it in and swirl it round, once clean i also dropped a small piece of magnet into the tank to collect any further rust falling into the tank and then knowing your tank is clean i cut the very end of the pick up pipe off to remove the little filter part to ensure good flow. after re-assemble my car ran great and never had any more probs! worth a try i think. oh and if you are seeing lots ofrust particles in the tank then the filler neck pipe is the cause and should be replaced.
