help car didnt wanna start this morn but now works!!!

got in this morning and started her up was a bit ropey, i started to drive and she cut out. then every time i tried to start her she started then cut out straight away!

i walked to the gym and then on the way back an hour or so later, worked fine and now has no issues. it was cold and damp this morn and wasnt as cold and damp when i went back to her.  anyone any ideas???

she is a 1600cc cab from 85 with auto gearbox.

please help!!!!

possibly carb icing.
possibly spark shorting.

little more

a little more i forgot to say earlier.

when it stopped it then fired a few times but as i reved it she died immediately. tis a strange one and im sure it was the cold but it wasnt below freezing???

im puzzled!

WD40…..our GTI SOMETIMES refuses to start on the button, or may misfire a bit……a liberal spraying of WD40 magic and she's away, and stays that way for quite a while, till we get a misty or drizzly day (and the wind blowing across the road towards the car) and needs a gentle spray again…..a little bit of damp air is apparently the problem.

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

you can still get carb freezing but it sounds more like you need new plug leads.

thanks guys ill look at some new leads, started ok today so i think it may be just when wet.

might have to keep some wd40 handy.

any other ideas please let me kno, or anyone round aldershot who wants to come look i make a mean cup of tea!
