Help ........ Again !!!!!!!!

Could anyone help me ??????

Having a problem with my 1.8 clipper auto (EX) got off the motorway tonight only 1 junction so 2-3 miles stopped at the lights all okay. Set off from the lights not silly but the kick down held on a while and when I looked in the mirror I had quite a lot of smoke, nothing massively unusual as I was thinking she might need new stem seals anyhow, but less than 100 yards later the oil warning light started flashing, the buzzer has gone off and the top end sounds like a dirty diesel rattling away !!!

Any ideas as to what's broken now ??? This is my 3rd thing in 3 weeks !!!! Love the car but with the current fuel issue (costing me £50 a week to do 70 miles) and the bump plus the electrics shorting and the lights flashing on and off it's starting to get to the point where nearly a £1000 quid in and it's costing more and more !!!!

Thanks for the help in advance

A few questions for you……
Is there still oil in the engine (between the min and max on the dip stick)?
Any oil leaks under the engine?
How old is the oil and what make of oil filter did you fit and what grade of oil are you using?
How many miles has the car done?
Did the buzzer and oil light stop when you turned the car off and left it for a bit then restarted?

Hi mark

The oil was to the top marker on the dip stick,I have a couple of very minor oil leaks (ie damp but not dripping, the oil was old and dirty and not sure of spec and grade, the car has 106k on it and finally the buzzer and light went out when car was left for 25mins the top end went back to being quiet but after 5 mins of running when I revved it up the light came back on and the top end got rattley again !

Oil pump ???

Just to update …….

Thanks to a very handy guide on here I dropped the sump ands fitted a new oil pump - looks like it was overdue

The oil was hanging and I suspect from a date stamp on the filter it was 4 years old at least !!!

I know the car hasn't done much mileage but that's just plain wrong.

On to the next job, full plug + ignition service as I'm guessing that's even older.

Glad it's sorted, it's a straight forward job to replace the oil pump, it's just the 2 bolts near the gearbox which are a pain to remove due to lack of space.
Pop in some 10W 40 semi sythetic oil and a new filter, get a good quality filter MANN or  a genuine VW filters are only about £3 and a new sump plug washer.

Got my filter from heritage !!! So I'm hoping it should be a good quality one and went for 10w40 semi from GSF.

I hope I can have a week of driving it without something braking !!!

Good place to buy parts next time…

i think the genuine oil filters are about the same price at the dealers.

It is important the oil and filter are changed every 10,000 miles or 12 months then your engine may do as many miles as mine at 262,000 miles…..

In honesty I will probably do it bi annually to make sure she's looked after well.

From what I can tell it was in storage for 4 years before the previous owner then the previous owner did about 600 miles and I think he looked for a get out as I think he knew it was gonna need a bit spending on it .

if its been runnign really rich you may have petrol in the oil plus bore wash, hopefully sorting the carb and the oil swap will see you right
