gx daily driver advice

Hey guys. I've done some searching and had a good mooch, learning some new stuff already but was wondering if i could get some insider info.

I'm floggin the vr6 to bring runnning costs down for a while, so am looking to buy a gx from a friend of mine.  Everything seems in order, all the trim is in great condition, runs well, has manual choke which from what I can gather is a useful mod and seems like a good, cool alternative for a daily.

i'm looking to lower slightly, add some fatter old school rims and roof rack just give her a resto look.

Can anyone give me a bit of insight as to how the gx runs as a daily, any problems I will encounter?

I think I fancy some twin carbs at some point too.

cheers

er.....nearly got a gx, planning on lowering, small wide rims, roof rack. Clean and cool, resto!!

There's a few GX owner's chatting in the 'New Folks' section, under the 'Mk1 GX owner new here' thread. I know at least 'Drochesaunders' uses his GX everyday, try posting in there for a reply.

My GX

I've been using mine as a runabout for 3 years now. Not everyday but a few times a week. Apart from the Autochoke probs (now fixed and converted to weber) it's been great.
Initially I upgraded the brakes to vented disks as the old ones were rubbish and rusty. The calipers were the same as a GTi so i rebuilt them.
The brakes were very poor before this. They are quite acceptable now.
Nothing significant has gone wrong, it gets cheap tax and generally costs pennies to run.

George "Look Bungle's going out!"

Zippy "Well put some more petrol on him then!"

hi there, i have a gx that i have used every day for almost a year, its fantastic. I am fitting a weber carb to it at the moment to solve the auto choke problems. U say u have fitted a weber carb, did u have problems finding longer bolts or a thinner gasket so that there was enough thread to hold the weber in place more securley?
