GTi Head onto Clipper/EX Engine??? Help!!!

Good morning everyone!
Ok hoping someone else has done this modification, and can offer advice?
Can I remove the head from my 1991 1800cc mk1 golf clipper/carb and replace it with a GTI head with injector holes blocked to allow me to fit my single 42 sidedraught webber/DCOE on a lynx manifold?

My only concern is the water gallery that feeds the inlet manifold, on the standard carb/weber, you cant just bolt on the lynx manifold, as it leaves the hole exposed!! As there are effectively 5 holes not your usual 4!
So im thinking, GTI head, bigger valves, mildly better cam, and bolt on the Lynx manifold and carb??

Please can someone confirm this for me?

yes a 1.8 GTi head will be straight bolt on mod.

the water chanel is only needed for the standard 2e2 carb, since you aint using that its no problem. just cap off the unused coolant fitting on the metal pipe round the engine (or fit a GTI one)

Another question regarding the use of a GTi head on my Clipper/EX engine.

Will it time up on the standard timing marks? or need fiddling with?

Hope that is not a stupid question?..I genuinely do not know..

bog standard marks unless you also change the dizzy fior a k-jet 8v one, in which case time it up to gti settings :)

I know this is an old thread but does anybody know if you can swap a GTi 1800 engine with a Clipper 1800 one? Total swap i.e. the GTi ends up with the carb engine?
