Golf 1.5 Cabby overheating and cutting out

Post

Can drive it for about 10 miles it seems to be running very hot and fan not kicking in (prob just coincidence) but it'll loose all power and cut out. If i drop it down a gear it'll pick up for a second and die. changed, ignition coil, leads, plugs, points and condenser. I dont think it's a fuel issue as it will run in tick over for as long as i let and think prob until it ran out of fuel. I'm really struggling now as this is my daily and lost without it. Could it be a distributor fault?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as i really need to get this running again been off the road since feb with this fault as i cant seem to pinpoint the fault.

Thanks guys

might be carb icing, check the warm air feed to the airbox is in place and the metal shroud around the manifold hasnt fallen off. also make sure the warm air diverter flap in the end of the airbox opens when the engine is running
