Does anyone know if a gti box will fit on a diesel block with no mods?  Thanks.

very short, wont be good for a diesel at all they like long tall ratios. you would never get anywhere in the thing with a gti box

Get in touch with Bert. I think the diesel boxes from the Mk3 era Golfs/Polos etc are a good 5 speed conversion for Mk1s, but he's been there and done it and knows his stuff.

A MK3 TDI is a straight swap 020 code

MK3 TDI box is not 020, its cable shift 02a. you must have a MK3 td box

02a , ok thats interesting, I assume these numbers are part of the code stamped on the box and as such are fairly easily identifiable?

These numbers are either on the Side or the Back of the box,
I am not sure mate

But put it in the requirement of 247 spares there will be many that can supply you one. :wink:

02a is tyhe type of box, not the box code.  02a is cable shift and hydralic clutch operation, 020 is rod shift and cable clutch. not a direct swap, you need to buy/make a custom gearbox mount and replace the entire rod shift and gearstick with a cable shift setup off a mk3/4.   for tyhe clutch either extensive mods required to make it hydrto clutch, or use the SEAT ABF/TDI hydro->cable conversion kit and find a suitable cable.

you'll know an 02a when you see one they look very different to the older 020
