Fuel Problem Help needed 20mpg

Hi, looking in the haynes manual I have I am pretty sure I have a solex on my 1.6 cab auto.
I have had to replace things, repair air intake etc etc and now the car is getting loads of air and fuel consumption has gone through the roof 20mpg on a good day pottering around the island!

Question:
Air intake screw on top of carb gained by a pull out stopper now to reduce fuel intake do I tighen down or release upwards.

Tighten down seems the logic course of action but when i do I get wet splatters out the back surely this means too much fuel!

Please can anyone help me  :dontknow:

when you screw it in in stops the air making it rich so unscrew to make lean best bet is to get it on a c0 machine

Excellent advice I thought it was wind it up but most advice I had been given was saying wind down.
I think I have it where it should be now, but for idle I have pulled clip of adjuster cable pulled cable up and reattached clip!
Now running ok but I know  that cable is going to go slack.
What is my next port of call to make it idle better?

A Garage.

Get the mixture set on a CO meter. I thought mine was "where it should be" (I believe 1% ? .5%). My figure was actually 10%. Mot Failure flavour.

They shouldn't charge you much, use it as an opportunity to have a chat, make friends, go there regularly and you'll be getting stuff done for free in no time…

to much air

their is a gasket between the carb and manifold that can perish and draw air when the vehicle is running if you push the carb back and forwards and their is achange in the tick over then the gasket is bolloxed
