FUEL ECONOMY MPG
Ive just done an accurate test on my cabby with the following spec and conditions.
1989 1.8 clipper 123000 miles
weber carb
jetex exhaust
bumpers removed.
Test carried out over 300 miles 250 of which with only me driving 50 of which carrying 2 passengers. (test measured by filling up to the brim when putting petrol in until pump clicks)
MPG recorded @ 42.58 driving very carefully on country roads. I was pretty impressed myself so wondered whatyou all thought.

The weber makes all the difference compared to the pierburg.
I dont thrash it too hard, have the quattro for that!
Cheers!

So JPA is the piersburg the standard carb? is the weber more economical than the standard? You reckon i will get more mpg if i put a standard exhaust on, if so do you know how to adjust the mixture on the weber?
Hi James,
The pierburg was original on the 1.8 clipper, with the awful auto choke that always went doo-lally. Thats why I changed to a weber which seems to make it much more economical.
I would assume that your jetex exhaust would make your car more economical on a normal run as it is probably more free-flowing than a standard one.
I need a new exhaust on mine to be honest but I cant believe some of the prices I have been quoted, even for a standard pattern one!
