Fly wheel mark problems

Post

Hi again,

Basically i've had a rough Idle and suspected the timing belt i fitted was a couple of teeth out.

I only have the dimond on the fly wheel no little dot for TDC, can anyone help?

I can put a screwdriver in pot No1 for TDC but its hard to get it 100% on the rock.

Has anyone got the same fly wheel and found a way around this?

Thanks

there should be a dot on there somewhere, if its a carb flywheel it will be further round to where it is on a gti flywheel (the one which you see on the famous flywheel picture everywhere)

there is also a mark on the crank pulley that lines up to an arrow on the lower timing belt cover though :)

No dots on mine either. I've got a mk3 golf engine which doesn't have the dots as the ignition advance is electronic.

I timed mine by ear. Emissions were spot on at MOT so can't e that far out.
