Flashing temp gauge

Is the light on the temp gauge for the water temp?

As i just fitted a new temp sender and the gauge was working fine sitting half way, but every time i revved the engine with the accelerator the light would flash, if i pulled the choke out and revved it that way the light did not flash?

Any ideas?

Andes on this, i cleaned upu the wire going to the top of the oil filter housing and the flashing has stopped? coincidence/related or not?

Unfortunately mate i don't have much of a clue about this kind of stuff but i got a 1.6 GLi cab with 1.8 GTi engine in it and my red LED flashes too. But no problems as yet so i've left it

It's just annoying

It flashes from cold, so i think everything is fine, left it idleing for an hour (while trying to set the C0) and nothing blew

I have a flashing light too. Its intermittant. I used to be able to stop it by wacking the top of the dash a bit, but then I took the dash apart looking for shorts, found none, put it back together and not it just flashes intermittantly. Some times I can go for a drive and it'll not flash at all other ties it flashed constantly.
