Fitting a gti oil cooler to a 1457 lump

Right….got the bargain basement 1.5 outside, and a bargain basement oil cooler from a gti in the garage, i know i can just bolt it up and have an extra bit of cooling for when it get thrashed

HOWEVER, is the oil pump on the 1.5 up to the job, i mean will there be any loss of pressure do to the extra distance the oil now has to travel, as  i assume the bigger engines with an oil cooler would have had a bigger pumps…..

let me hear your thoughts everyone ! :D

and heres a pic of the oil cooler bolted in place…..just to entertain…

No problem !  :)

I reckon it'll be fine to be honest,  no harm in asking though……

Would prefer to see the parts in use than sit around for another decade or so…..

hi mate, this is a wierd question, what u gonna use as a sender as yours is different? why would u wanna add extra weight to a slow-revving cool engine? wouldnt u be better changing the thermostat or getting a bigger rad (mk2 gl/gti/etc), if you are getting one of these hot more likely summats borked :dontknow: it aint the oil that travelling extra its the coolant/water, be better fitting a bigger rad i reckon as the 1458 engines are slow revving jobbies and dont tend to get hot even when thrashed, you could always change stat or thermo switch for a summer number

My 1500cc auto has a GTI oil cooler on it, was there when I got the car.

To be honest the cooler very rarely gets warm, even with the original dodgy small radiator (now changed) and water temp towards the red the oil cooler wouldn't really get hot. I'm sure I read somewhere that the thermostat in the oil filter housing doesn't open to let the oil through the cooler until about 130 degrees or something!

However, if you do want to fit it then I wouldn't have thought there would be any problems, there isn't on mine anyway. You need the GTI filter housing (or a sandwich plate) to fit the pipes to at the engine end.  :D
