fan belt

The fan belt in my golf keeps coming loose what would cause this??

have a look at the adjuster (a toothed nut on a bracket also toothed above the pulley) take it of and examing the teeth, if it is worn it will cause it to slip. had the same problem myself and that was the culprit 6 quid for a new one from vw dealer

Give us a clue,is it a diesel? if so has it done loads of miles,if so its probably the alternator pulley worn,so the belt rides well low in the V and it eats the belt, also use a quality belt,as in Gates continental etc.

The engine has only done 81,000 miles. I had another look at it today and it looks as if the pulley powered by the engine is a bit loose. Can this be tightened??
