Whoever fitted the Mk2 GTI 8V, didn't update the log book!
Of course, the standard big block engines will also fit, eg 1.5, 1.6 and 1.8 carb as found in the Mk1 Golf. Also, there's a bunch of similar engines of the same era as fitted to various other VW and Audi, for example DZ which is a 1.8 112bhp from the Audi 80, Mk2 Golf GTI engines also 112bhp, etc etc
How come you're allergic to fuel injection? Is the cabby a carb engined one to start with (I suspect so with the 1600cc declared capacity)?

Paul-c. We got the car just before xmas as a non runner i think who ever had it before us was waiting to get the car running before telling the DVLA. Now we have the car what ever engine is fitted i will make sure the DVLA will know as i hate it when people think its good to hide things like this.
As for been " allergic to fuel injection " im not as long as its the fuel rail. I just couldnt work out the kjet engine.
