Engine swap ???

Some of you may know im restoring a 1983/84 Mk1 Golf cabriolet. I need to find a full list of car engines and what year / mk that will fit in without not needing to change the cars standard engine mounts

Any help will do. Dont want to fit a Kjet engine so it looks like its the carb for me

So far ive been told the following will fit

Any carburettored engine out of a Mk2 golf 1.6 or above
Polo GT engine ( but dont know what year or mk that is or what cc ? )

The thing is i want to buy a full car so i can use it for the donor so i have the fuel tank, wires ete etc

Thanks again for any help
Dave

didn't realise it was a cab as you've posted in the smallblock section (ask moderator to move your post might get more response). i'm not too hot on the bigger lumps but i believe anything above a 1.5 upto a 2.0l 16v lump will bolt in on the same mounts but with the bigger lump may be some wiring to be done but prob not too much as you already have an 8v lump in (may even plug straight in  :dontknow: ) hope that helps dude.

Same mounts? 2.0 8V, 1.8 16V, 2.0 16V normal and tall block. G60 won't fit without a fabricated engine mount bracket on the engine side. Not sure about 20vT, I think its either cut down or fabricated on the engine mount.

Whoever fitted the Mk2 GTI 8V, didn't update the log book!

Of course, the standard big block engines will also fit, eg 1.5, 1.6 and 1.8 carb as found in the Mk1 Golf. Also, there's a bunch of similar engines of the same era as fitted to various other VW and Audi, for example DZ which is a 1.8 112bhp from the Audi 80, Mk2 Golf GTI engines also 112bhp, etc etc

How come you're allergic to fuel injection? Is the cabby a carb engined one to start with (I suspect so with the 1600cc declared capacity)?

Thanks guys thats a good bit to get started on

Paul-c. We got the car just before xmas as a non runner i think who ever had it before us was waiting to get the car running before telling the DVLA. Now we have the car what ever engine is fitted i will make sure the DVLA will know as i hate it when people think its good to hide things like this.

As for been " allergic to fuel injection " im not as long as its the fuel rail. I just couldnt work out the kjet engine.
