Engine over running

My 1989 Clipper 1.8 carb engine sometimes carries on running for a few seconds after the key has been turned off......any ideas what could be the problem

my car was doing the same thing, i found that if you unscrew the dizzy and turn it slightly this will stop, also if the vacuum pipes on the side of the air filter are leaking or not plugged in correctly the carb seems to intake more fuel then usual so check these as well, hope it helps.

what ever u do dont turn the dizzy UNLESS u have a timing light to hand so you no where u are, as this alters ur timing all together and if u get it wrong it will run rough/will be crap acceleration and seem slugish.

could be a build up of carbon in the head, getting very hot and causing it to keep running for a few seconds, if u have mechanical fuel pump as long as its still turning fuel will be going in and all it needs is a slight bit of glowing carbon and it will keep on running, but id get it tuned up first, check timing and carb set up. and some substitute to put in ur tank to de coke the head etc,

i always have the last laugh ;)
