engine help asap please

hi,

just swaped the engine in my golf its a 1800 from a mk2 but it has the later dizzy.

i cant get it go go, was sold to me as a good running engine.

is it possible i will need to change the dizzy over?

any help welcome

Its possible….almost anything's possible, after all.

But the engine should work fine with the 1.8 dizzy.

Kind of need more info - what kind of engine was the old one in the car you're doing the work on, what 1800 engine from what Mk2, etc etc otherwise we're all guessing a little.

Its most likely you've made some mistake or not connected something which should be, but…..without being there and looking at it/doing tests, etc…..

all i know is that they are both 1800  carb engines, the car is a 1990 cabby and the replacement engine was sold as a replacement item for a mk1 from a mk2, apart from the dizzy they ar idcentical.


the only thing thats not conected are the carb wires as its a webber fitted from my old enine and a brown single one that i cant find were it go's over the gearbox side.

it fires but wont run.

got good spark and fuel giting through

Which year is the MK2 engine? It might be that the dizzy is 1 trigger per revolution, instead of 4, but I doubt it if the hall sender plugged in as normal.

Just sounds like you have the ignition timing wrong, or something obvious, or the ignition leads the wrong way round etc etc.

just double check stuff?

single brown wire......... earth? could be why its not running!!

no idea what year the mk2 engine is, didnt get given that info when i bought it.

i know the dizzy is diffrent to the original one so i wondred if it would need diffrent wiring to what the origonal one woud of needed

How is the dizzy different????
