engine fitment

does any one know if a 1.6 diesel engine out off a transporter on an 85 plate is the same as the 1.6 diesel out off an 82 golf?

found one on ebay all i need is the pump

I tihnk the engine is the same but the ancillaries, manifolds, etc are all going to be different because its for in-line fitment, rather than transverse. Also you may have to swap the sump. But if you have your existing engine, you could swap the parts over (obviously, you'd need lots of new gaskets, etc). Might be worth posing the question to the seller, and if he says it is and you come across insurmountable problems, then you might have some comeback there.

Not a good idea , your best bet would be to find MK2 Diesel runner and transplant that . If you remember at Gaydon i offered you a ?150 mk2 diesel turbo engine and box complete , this has sadly been sold but they are out there and would plop in a MK1 quite easily . Bert on here is you best bet for further advice

i doremember being offered the engine but i want cheap to get it to run as little as poss as i want a 2.0 16v petrol in it eventually so anything to get what i got running all i need is the diesel pump thats all and it seems like there rarer than rocking horse poo to get hold off
