I had this problem recently; pretty sure it was electrical…….or something to do with the vacuum pipes!
Make sure all the electrical connections are okay, especially in the ignition circuit, maybe clean and tighten them, and then check your vack pipes; what carb are you using?

You may have the same problem I had, the clutch cable had been put underneathg the air pipe on the back of the throttle body that is attached to the auxilery air valve , when the clutch was pressed the cable put pressure on the hose and over time split it too much air was getting in. Have a check to see.The clutch cable should be routed through the pies.

hey, this was happening to my ford ka, e.g. at first only when I went down steep hills but later also when I was breaking and putting foot on clutch at the same time - it was the idler valve which needed to be replaced, sometimes it helps when you just clean them,on the ka as well it was easy to take of - 2 screws
