engine codes

I have a Mk1 with engine code ET xxxxxxxx
can someone tell me what cc this motor is ?
it is not a x flow as i belive the 1100's were.
It looks like a mk1 gti motor with a carb
but possibly a 1300? The Car body is a
L But it seems there has been work done
as the engine mount "cam belt side seeems to have
been added later on.  :?

The reason i need to know is im checking if it's worth
a rebore to 1600 & total overhaul incl head for unleaded or
putting in a 1.4i motor with low k's :?

ET doesn't show up as a Mk1 or Mk2 engine code. Is that the code stamped on the block and are you sure you read it correct as they are usually difficult to read?

Capacities of the big block petrol engine were either 1.5 or 1.6 in carb form.

All Golf engines are ok for unleaded without any additional head work.

I would overhaul your existing engine rather than have the hassle of converting to fuel injection with new fuel lines, etc
