Drive shaft question

I've recently fitting a tall black 2e block into my mk1, and polly bushed everything.

the lump went straight in no probs, however now that I've come to build up the front hubs, I note the driveshafts once fitted into the box end do not align with the hubs.  There feel as if there needs to be a little more play in the shafts to get them to fit although I'm not convinced.

anybody any Ideas?

I am fairly new to this mechanical bit of motoring and would appreciate any comments…

as above the gear linkage and everything aligns perfectly but the shafts don't to the hubs.

what engine & gearbox did the mk1 have in it before?

Standard 1.8 gti lump

all should fit perfectly then, there is a bit of in and out float in the CVs, so maybe they got shoved inwards while you were playing about?
