Distributor leak

Hi folks

There is an O ring on the shaft running the distributor. I have a small oil leak from it. Is there a part number for this ring. I have spoken to a motor factors and they said just bring in the old one and we will find on to match it, surely this is a VW part.. The car is a 1980 1.8 GLS Cabrio

you must remember that veh manu (vms) build cars from parts
as you are well aware bosch /ate/lucas etc etc etc are not owned by vw
and i have the same o ring kit at my place of work (motor factors)
so if one matches will be fine
or order one from vws as only going to be pence rather than pounds

when I rang the motor factors ( who happens to be a freind) he said he had a large box of O rings there and he would find one to match it by eye. just seem a bit hap hazzardous way of replacing a part,,

Not really haphazard, most VW o-rings will be of a common size not exclusive to VW, bit like nuts and bolts.

1.6 + 1.8 Distributor seal ring. VW 026 905 261. Seems to fit most.
