Daft question I'm sure but...............

Flame suit on…

How can I tell if I have a small or big block..  I believe the car I have is fitted with a 1.9 over bored block, but some knob before me has scored the block, so there are no block numbers on it….  There is a big 8 stamped on the block, but not much more.

Anybody any ideas.

Can I aslo ask, would any 8v head onto the block I have? as the car had previously 1.8 gti engine in it, which needed a repair, so took this block out of an old car I purchased a few years ago to rebuild but never got around to doing and thought I'd builld a 2nd engine for the mk1 gti and have a play at getting some power out of it…

Any help would be appreciated.

if it was a 1.9 then it's a big block
