cool bottom hose from the radiator

Hello, I hpe someone can put my mind at ease.

I have a 1600 diesel and it always runs warm according tothe temp guage, just over the led on normal driving and higher when ragging it. I know the fan and thermoswitch are OK because they were replaced 2 weeks ago.

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that if the bottom rad hose, the one that goes from the rad to the water pump, is cool after running for a while then this is not good.

It's not using any coolant - any I just panicking for nothing?

Thanks

thermostat

Hello
Could be the thermostat, is the bottom hose feel full (of water) when engine warms up if not I'd say thats what it could be.
Are you positive that the thermoswitch is working I bought one from new (GSF) and mines gone my fan works if I trip it out but never comes on when engine warms up.  Bought a new one from these guys http://www.vwspares.co.uk/ not fitted yet but hope to have soon. Got that many jobs to do on the car and not enough time in a weekend plus the rain/floods dont help at the moment.

Mines a 1800 petrol and it usually runs bang in the middle of the gauge when warm and a bit cooler when (if) my fan kicks in.

Hope this helps
Cheers

The thermostat is inside the waterpump elbow, thermo switch is in the corner of the radiator (follow wires from rad fan)   :)
