Cold Start Idling

Can anyone help with how I adjust the idle speed of my Mark 1 Golf Clipper, carb model when it's cold. It stars ok but then after a few minutes it idles at around 2500 revs. It does eventually drop to normal when it's warmed up, but it can be a bit embarassing when I'm at lights or a crossing & it's reving it's head off.
Thanks

Carb problem

HI,
Sounds like your automatic choke has a fault in some way, if it's the pierburg carb check the auto choke unit on your right hand side of the carb when looking in engine bay.
Let me know how you get on may have a PDF of a service manual I can email to you explains alot more with pictures than I can with words.
Cheers

I don't know much mechanically, but the choke flap doesn't seem to have much resistance, i.e. it hangs open slightly with not much resistance when you push it right open, but like I said, it does eventually settle out when it warms up. I'll PM you my e-mail address & if you could, would you e-mail the manual to me. Every little helps, it may give me a better idea about it. By the way it is a pierburg 2E2.
Cheers
Stuart

2e2

Hi
Finally someone else with a 2e2, my 85 cab has one. Mine had a similar problem as yours, got hold of a second hand carb and changed the autochoke unit. Its now alot betta but still got idling problem in that after initial stage once warming up the rev's drop to bout 500 rpm and sometmes dies. I think it's probably down to the wear and tear of certain parts on the carb and settings not being quite right.

I do have another carb as I got the one thats on it just now from a breakers as the other one had a bit wire wrapped around the bit of metal that sticks up behind the choke, so as it would hold the choke open a bit, so I could steal bits from both & maybe get one good one, if I knew what parts to change.

carbs

I'd be weary of changing parts I would try to make the best out of the two changing the minimum of parts as each of the carbs would have various stages and forms of wear and tear. Hence a certain combination may not be the best solution.
They are quite awkward these carbs sorry if I'm causing more problems than solutions.
cheers

I'm actually thinking of giving the old one a try again even though it's got a bit wire round it for a dodgy fix, because it was actually working ok. The problem I first found was that it was drawing in air from the rubber gasket it is mounted on, but my mate who found this out had said the dodgy fix on the carb could be auto choke problems so I had the chance of another carb along with the gasket for ?10 so I just took it.
Cheers anyway

carb problem

Hi
Didnt mean anything by last message, my experience is that every carb is individual and every carb has it's individual problems and characteristics.
All the best mate
Ps: I've heard that the rubber gasket is a known issue when worn usually cracks letting air in as you described.
