clean my carb

hey chaps, i believe i have got a standard solex carb in my shed to go on my 1.5 when the engine comes back from the builders, but as it has sat there collecting dust, i really think it could do with a good clean, im not sure as it would even fire if i was to just put her on the engine. i know carbs are full of fiddly bits so i dont really want to take her to bits as i havnt got the faintest idea how to build it back together, so is there a way i can clean it off the engine?? i mean the internals etc
thanks

carb cleaner/ brake and clutch cleaner (comes in a spray can with a straw to get down the venturi,

soak the whole carb in a tub of deisel for a few days then blast off with carb cleaner, other than that its a strip down

Haynes Carburettor Manual is pretty good if you ever feel like taking the plunge.

striping it is the best option. that way you can ensure things like floats are ok etc.
you dont need to to a full strip down just certain bits.
take your time with it. clean each bit as you take it off. and remember refitting is the reverse of removal.

if your that woried there are companies out there that will do it for you at a cost.

how much dya think it would cost to get someone to strip it and clean it for me? i think it could do with it,

has anyone stripped one down before? are they that daunting??

i've stripped mine once or twice as well as doing multiple bike carbs they are suprisingly simple things. get the book mentioned above and read it. if your not sure then go to a scrap yard rip one of a car and strip it and build it a few times to get to grips with what your doing. doesn't have to be the same carb to get a good grasp of what your doing.

whats the idea of putting it in a tub of diesel all about? i have sat it in a tub of degreaser at the min, its really good stuff, and isnt harmfull to the hands or paint or whatever, this sound like a good idea or not?

it's just to get the moving parts cleaned and moving again.

i here that  a deisel/parafin mix works better for unseizing things tho
