Carburettor data

Hi all hope yr keeping well,i have a query regarding carb data.I use the haynes manual no 0726.which covers golf 1974 upto 1984 & scirocco1974 upto 1982. In the manual it has a section on carbs which states various engine codes  i.e. JB,GH, which then tells you wether you have a Solex 1B3 carb  or a solex 34 etc, etc,My golf's engine code is EW,but i cant find anything in the carb data referring to any EW engine codes in this book yet my car is a march 84 gl cabrio do i have the wrong haynes manual?however then i find a reciept from the previous owner for a weber carb from eurocarparts.com,so i visited the website put in the part no:341440180 & it correctly says its for my car & refers to it as replacing the Pierburg 2E2. so is an EW a correct code for my engine?does a Pierburg 2E2 carb make sense to anyone & do i need a different haynes manual? oh & have i bored the pants of anyone yet 8O any help most welcome thanks all Paddy :D

The 1588cc EW engine is a cab engine. Most mk1's came with Solex carbs, VW went over to Pierburgs for mk2 production. As your cab was built during mk2 production period, it may be worth having a look at a mk2 Golf Haynes manual.

Pierburg 2E2

The Pierburg 2E2 carb was I'm sure a good carb when new but over time there was a lot to go wrong! The wax stat, the pull down unit and the bi metalic coil would probably all have needed replacing. The weber conversion was common and far better than the 2E2. I tried to repair a 2E2 on a 1986 1600gl cabriolet about 9 years ago…..A weber went on!  :)
