carb replacement

I've got the original carb and like others having problems with it and was wondering if any one has used a different carb other than a webber one??

not quite the right section lol.

what engine?

I've seen small blocks running nikki carbs, but the weber is the main.

big block tends to be weber or twin webers, although i did see a gti a few years ago that had twin su's fitted coz the guy had some lying around.

if it's the 2e2, the carb is actually very good if you can get it working properly!  There isn't much dif over the weber, only easier starting really. The bore sizes are the same, just the weber is a bit easier to tune coz the jets are easier to get at!  alot of the economy gain is lost due to people over using the choke.

it'll be a 1b3.
the carb is a good one if set up and running right. but the slightly complicated choke arrangement and the vacuum system put people off.
the replacement webber is raved about but in all honesty is just as much of a problem if not working correctly and can be just as hard to get working if something goes wrong. because of the over use of the manual choke and the missunderstanding of correct setup you will not see a massive increase in full economy as all ready mentioned.

tiwn su's would fit with a custom manifold but as the webber is not far off a direct replacement there really is little reason to look aswell.

and yes i'm still running the solex/peirburg 1b3 on my 1.5 jb engine (gx. more doors for the win)

haha more doors ftw
does yours run ok? and is there a way to sort out the choke system?
being a student has it's drawbacks :( lol

start by sorting the vacuum system out. as it controls the kick down on the choke system.

start by replacing all the vacuum lines around the carb (B&Q sell pipe thats suitable and halfrauds stock fuel pipe thats small enough bore for the flexible bits)
that should make a huge difference
then a water change can help as well. with the correct mix of coolant as the choke system works of the water temperature. after that it's adjusting things like the diapharm in the pull down unit and the the cross over bar. if these have never been touched then dont bother with it as they dont tend to change.

the top 2 items should make a resonable difference.
