Car starts 1st time....then dies!!

So, havnt used my car all that much in the last 4/5 weeks, took it to get rear disc conversion and a few extra bits done, nothing ignition or transmission though. Never had a problem with really from jan when i got it!

Started it fine drove it home, when i pulled up it seemed a bit lumpy but ticking over normal, next day dropped to around 250rpm revs but still ok and stayed running!

yesterday i started it dropped to 250 and then gradually cut out but started straight away again and revs normal but cuts out. today i revved it at 1000rpm and ticked over around 500rpm, went in engine bay and moved a vaccuum line and ticked over fine so cut it to good hose and put it back and let engine cool. started again 1st time but died straight away!

my engine is a 1.8 carb, hope somebody can shed any light

get some pics of the carb up. Maybe we can help you then. Could just be your vacuum set up.

Check your filler neck to see if it has been replaced in the past or have you replaced it.
Then look in the tank for rust pieces from old filler neck and remove them, also change the in-line fuel filter.
Check the carb flange located under the carb for damage which i think is the cause in this case, then as mentioned check you vac piping.
What carb do you have, can you post pics of your setup please.
Pete.

P.s. i know you may say AND lol, but the rear disc conversion is pointless for a carb model i have to say.
It is mainly for looks alone which is exspensive look.
Reason i say pointless is the weight of the car is thrown forward to the front when breaking thus your best spending on the front setup and make that the best it can be which all you need is 239mm vented disc and gti pads and nice fresh brake fluid.

Thanks for the replies lads, ive sorted it, turns out it was the rubber hosing that goes from vacuum out of servo into the side of the carb, it had split on the bottom so i was looking in the right place ha.

I know the rear disc is appearance with my engine, i got the calippers quite cheap and discs were on a rear beam i picked up to renew and swap for mine, and when the engine packs up good and proper i will be doing an engine conversion but having lots of service history and me maintaining it with love hopefully will last a while more than 113,000!

Thanks Bradley
